No bike should spend its life on the sidewalk. That’s why Todd Van Fleet rescues bikes. “Snapping the shutter is the easy part. Finding the bikes is where the real adventure begins.” Todd rescues old cruiser bikes from the corners of barns, sheds, and junk yards; then straps them to his back and hikes to far-flung, lonely landscapes, giving each bike a story in a photograph. Todd’s bold and whimsical scenes earned a spot in Denver International Airport for a 2008 exhibit called Colorado, See the New West Like a Local.

In 2012, Todd’s work prompted the town of Vail, Colorado to give him access to remote areas of Vail Mountain so he could produce a series of bicycle-landscapes – or as Todd calls them, “Bikescapes” – for the inaugural year of the USA Pro Challenge bike race. The Bikescapes were displayed on low-set billboards throughout Vail Village as part of the Art of Motion exhibit for Vail’s Art in Public Places program.

In 2013, the boutique apartment complex, Cruise, commissioned Todd to design lobby and lounge artwork to welcome tenants into the fashionable, Uptown complex. Todd installed innovative displays conforming to Cruise’s aesthetic theme, including a bicycle mounted to “float” through a wall and images printed directly onto metal plates.

Todd finished his degree in Fine Arts in Illustration from Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in 1998, and has since worked in advertising as an art director and photographer. Todd recently chose to follow his passions and join the creative team at Flatirons Community Church in Lafayette, Colorado.

Todd’s strong faith has driven him to become a better man and leader, prioritizing his wife, Stephanie, and his three beautiful children: Mackenzie, Kaylin and Luke. Todd and his kids spend hours upon hours building forts and Lego creations. The family loves hiking and camping, and they spend lots of time exploring the trails wandering through their neighborhood just outside of Boulder, CO.
