After a long career as a courtroom artist, Ms. Woosley has turned her talents in the direction of the fine arts, fulfilling a lifelong ambition of being a full-time fine art painter. “I’ve loved every minute of courtroom art and continue to sketch trials, but my focus is changing. I’ve explored all the creative options possible within the courtroom genre and I want more. I’ve always painted and exhibited when time permitted but, with the trials, never had much time.”

She continues, “I’ve made a commitment to paint those things I find meaningful and to share my vision of both tangible and spiritual themes. I love painting animals, the western landscape, Native-Americans, and western people in general.”

Brigitte is alarmed at the rapid rate at which the landscape is being altered by development and is wanting “to capture as much of the landscape as remains undeveloped.” During the Oprah trial in Amarillo, she discovered the Palo Duro Canyon and had the opportunity to return to Amarillo for another trial last year (Councilman Al Lipscomb’s corruption trial) where she spent every spare minute between trial sessions in the canyon. This resulted in several fine paintings of the area, and while continuing to paint the canyon she has also continued painting wildlife, western, figurative, and spiritual themes.

After many years in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area Brigitte returned to the Texas Hill country where she continues to sketch the occasional trial and focus on fine art painting. She has been invited to participate in a number of prestigious Western art venues across Texas and beyond.

Having come from an artistic family, I began sculpting at a very early age. As an adolescent I spent a lot of time in a local quarry digging up clay and making things for friends and family. My father taught me to work with wood, building furniture and carving.

In 1972 I enrolled at the Hill Fine Art Center were I studied under the great metal sculptor Orion Hargett.

I started out taking lessons and went on to teach photography and wood sculpture there and at Joliet Jr.College and eventually came to own and operate the Hill Fine Art Center until 1982. In those years I made and taught wood sculpture while I studied the masters of kinetic art and in 1998 decided to channel all my energy into embracing that medium. In the beginning I used copper but soon changed to stainless steel. I love the idea of taking this heavy and seemingly unyielding metal and transforming it into a piece that floats like a feather and will last for years and years.

I love kinetic sculpture because of all the different mechanisms there are to design with, from Calder’s mobiles to George Rickey’s conical movement and every thing in between. They give me a never ending pallet with which to stretch my imagination.

I have been very fortunate to have had shows and commissions in Santa Fe, NM, Taos, NM, New Orleans LA, Houston, TX, Nashville, TN, Austin TX, Sonoma CA, Wimberley, TX, Fontana, CA, Johnson City, TX, and sold pieces to clients around the world.

In 2008 I had the wonderful honor of being chosen by the McNay Fine Art Museum in San Antonio, TX to teach a kinetic sculpture workshop to 50 art teachers in preparation for their George Rickey exhibit.

I plan to dedicate the rest of my time here on earth designing kinetic sculpture using every mechanism I can invent or find, from opposing pinwheels, to pendulums, to George Rickie’s conical movement. I hope you enjoy what I have done so far and visit me from time to time to see what I come up with in the future.

Those familiar with the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden will know Joe Barrington’s work. His sculpture “Red Heron” was part of Art in the Park 2008. Barrington received a bachelor of fine arts from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls where he has taught. He lives and works in Throckmorton, Texas.

Barrington’s sculptures are in collections throughout the Southwest, including the Mesa Natural History Museum in Mesa, Ariz.; Rio Grande Zoo in Albuquerque, N.M.; and the Old Jail Art Center in Albany, Texas.

The sculpture — a pick-up truck with an enormous yellow catfish lying in its bed and over the cab — is, according to the sculptor, part of a series of sculptures based on the combined experiences of his mother’s extended family and his growing up surrounded by the idea that “everything is bigger in Texas.”

Barrington’s family, based in East Texas, loved to hunt and fish, and did so to put food on the table. The artist said his sculpture tells the story of those who hunt and fish to survive as well as to sustain their memory. He also said viewers construct their own stories around his art.

Phil Simpson graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in Art and a Master of Arts in Painting and Printmaking. He went on to receive his Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. His skills were further refined as an Artist-in-Residence at Sculpture Art Park in Lewiston, New York and Anderson Fine Arts Center in Anderson, Indiana, and a Visiting Artist at University of Texas at San Antonio.

Created in forged and fabricated steel, paint and pencil, his works are found in corporate, museum, university and private collections throughout the United States.

His work is included in the private collections of over thirty organizations and individuals, including: General Motors in Anderson, Indiana; Westinghouse Corporation in Muncie, Indiana; McNay Art Museum in San Antonio, Texas; and North Park Lexus in San Antonio, Texas.

Phil has been teaching for over 37 years in an academic college setting, as well as private classes in painting, life drawing, sculpture and ornamental ironwork. In addition to his current offerings at Coppini Academy, he has been an Assistant Professor at University of Texas at El Paso and San Antonio Art Institute, an Instructor at Trinity University and The School at Majestic Ranch, and recently retired as an Adjunct Professor at San Antonio College. Currently, he can be found teaching Welding, Blacksmithing and Metal Art, and working on new sculpture at his Hill Country studio in Boerne, Texas.

Among many public showings and private collections, Phil’s work has been featured in Southwest Art, Texas Monthly and Texas Highways magazines. His work is included as examples in the books “Sculpture: Technique-Form-Content”, by A. Williams, and “The Contemporary Blacksmith”, “Direct Metal Art” and “Architectural Ironwork” by D. Meilach.

A “scape” sensitive sculptor, Phil Simpson masterfully forms steel in response to his environment through sensuous and elegant expression. He works with two- and three-dimensional shapes that evoke landscapes, dreamscapes and mindscapes together with the human form.

“As a working artist, I hope never to make up my mind. I want to continue to make art in whatever way, with whatever materials best communicate the concept. I consider making art an investigation into the human psyche and spirit.”

The Landscape sculpture is a product of sitting in the window seat of a large airplane too long, too many times.

I moved from Anderson Indiana, the land of big tall trees and lots of corn, to the desert of El Paso, Texas. As Head of Sculpture at The University of Texas at El Paso, the drama and power of the Franklin Mountains and surrounding desert began to change my images.

The quiet strength of the desert, as reflected in the sculpture, is my response.
